Measuring Guide for Compression Stockings

Measuring your legs for compression stockings, support socks, support hose, and gradient compression hosiery:.

  • For knee-highs: measure around your ankle and calf. Then, measure the distance from the floor to the back of your knee.
  • For thigh-high and pantyhose: measure around your ankle, calf, and upper thigh. Then, measure the distance from the floor to your upper thigh (bottom of your buttocks).

An Important Measuring Tip...
If swelling is an issue with you, measure your legs, first thing in the morning, after you get out of bed. This is when swelling is at a minimum, and the size of your legs should remain once the swelling is eliminated. Each of our compression products has a sizing chart on the product page.

Measure around the ankle at the narrowest point, generally above the ankle bone.
Measure around the calf muscle at the widest part.
Measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
Measure around the thigh approx. 3" below the gluteal fold (crease of buttocks).
Measure the distance from the bottom of your buttocks to the floor.

Sizes may differ between various brands of support stockings. Keep in mind that each manufacturer of support hose has their own sizing chart. A medium size in one brand of circulation stockings, may not be a medium in another. Some brands of compression stockings offer petite (shorter) lengths, while others do not. Knowing your measurements will ensure you get compression hosiery that fits properly and comfortably.

If you're not looking to spend a whole lot of circulation stockings, these might be for you. I've found that they work just as well as the full-priced series.

It seems like Jobst has a way of filling every little niche, and they've definitely done that with the relief economy - affordable, yet highly effective.

These are great because they offer durable compression support at 1/3 the price of other Jobst Medical Legwear. I only buy Jobst because they fit me best and last a long time. I will continue to buy Jobst for the rest of my life because I trust it. I tried the other brands and was not satisfied.

I think these are of a slightly lesser quality than the other Jobst series, but for the price, you really can't beat them.

Because a bad case of CVI, I am required to wear support hose for relief and to avoid sores; I use different weights and brands for treatment. I have found Jobst Relief 20-30 mmHg Closed Toe Pantyhose to be extremely comfortable when I need the extra support of the 20-30 mmHg weight hose because they offer excellent support, while being slightly cooler because of being a very comfortable material, and very easy to get on. I prefer the pantyhose most of the time because they stay up better than the thigh high hose; but I do have a combination of both.
