Measuring Guide for Compression Stockings

Measuring your legs for compression stockings, support socks, support hose, and gradient compression hosiery:.

  • For knee-highs: measure around your ankle and calf. Then, measure the distance from the floor to the back of your knee.
  • For thigh-high and pantyhose: measure around your ankle, calf, and upper thigh. Then, measure the distance from the floor to your upper thigh (bottom of your buttocks).

An Important Measuring Tip...
If swelling is an issue with you, measure your legs, first thing in the morning, after you get out of bed. This is when swelling is at a minimum, and the size of your legs should remain once the swelling is eliminated. Each of our compression products has a sizing chart on the product page.

Measure around the ankle at the narrowest point, generally above the ankle bone.
Measure around the calf muscle at the widest part.
Measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
Measure around the thigh approx. 3" below the gluteal fold (crease of buttocks).
Measure the distance from the bottom of your buttocks to the floor.

Sizes may differ between various brands of support stockings. Keep in mind that each manufacturer of support hose has their own sizing chart. A medium size in one brand of circulation stockings, may not be a medium in another. Some brands of compression stockings offer petite (shorter) lengths, while others do not. Knowing your measurements will ensure you get compression hosiery that fits properly and comfortably.

These travel socks from Jobst have prevented my legs from ever swelling. I find these cotton compression socks to be very comfortable and keep my feet energized during flight. I am extremely satisfied in this product for my travel needs.

The socks bind at the top and left marks around my ankles. The compression is not right. I do not believe they are authentic jobst stockings. I try to rate them one star, but the system doesn't let me.

I own several of these. The knee band is perfect and the material unlike any. I showed them to my Hemotologist (I had a past DVT) in Boston who is recommending them to his patients now rather than the old fashion uncomfortable ones. I LOVE that you can get them open and closed toe (I own both). My ENT in Boston saw them and took down the name to buy them for his elderly father who hates stockings but wear these. Compression is anti embolism. This is an A+ . Just came back to the site to see them on sale and buy more. For those without problems I would never fly without them! Bought them for my husband to fly to Turkey and sister to fly to Israel. Why take a chance? I was on Coumadin for 6 months and INRs every other day. Why take a chance?? These are the BEST on the market because you can sweat and they absorb. I tell people that they have that wonderful feeling if you ever took ballet lessons as a little girl and Mom put on your tights. It feels wonderful 15-20 mg. I recommend them to everyone who sits or stands on the job.
