Measuring Guide for Compression Stockings

Measuring your legs for compression stockings, support socks, support hose, and gradient compression hosiery:.

  • For knee-highs: measure around your ankle and calf. Then, measure the distance from the floor to the back of your knee.
  • For thigh-high and pantyhose: measure around your ankle, calf, and upper thigh. Then, measure the distance from the floor to your upper thigh (bottom of your buttocks).

An Important Measuring Tip...
If swelling is an issue with you, measure your legs, first thing in the morning, after you get out of bed. This is when swelling is at a minimum, and the size of your legs should remain once the swelling is eliminated. Each of our compression products has a sizing chart on the product page.

Measure around the ankle at the narrowest point, generally above the ankle bone.
Measure around the calf muscle at the widest part.
Measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
Measure around the thigh approx. 3" below the gluteal fold (crease of buttocks).
Measure the distance from the bottom of your buttocks to the floor.

Sizes may differ between various brands of support stockings. Keep in mind that each manufacturer of support hose has their own sizing chart. A medium size in one brand of circulation stockings, may not be a medium in another. Some brands of compression stockings offer petite (shorter) lengths, while others do not. Knowing your measurements will ensure you get compression hosiery that fits properly and comfortably.

I highly suggest that anyone suffering from chronic circulation issues look into purchasing the surgical grade. I wear them and they've done a lot of good for me.

These are definitely medical stockings that are actually comfortable. Lots of medical stockings I've tried do the job alright, but they really hurt. These however, feel great on my legs.

This line seems to be of decent quality. Only after a week of wearing them, I saw a significant decrease in my leg swelling!

The Second Skin are my stockings of choice. I need something strong for my DVT, and these do the trick. They're comfortable too. Great value.

Good stockings don't need to cost a lot. Second Skin Surgical Grade really worked well for me. I used these post-surgical procedure for removal of my varicose veins.

These are one third the cost of the leading brands. I usually buy 3 pairs or more and interchange between them. That way they last a lot longer, and I don't have to break the bank. It's hard to tell the difference between these and the expensive kind.

I needed stockings for my Mom with the problem of bulging varicose veins. I did not want to spend a lot, but I was also told to get a specific compression in mmhg. I looked around everywhere online trying to find something suitable and Second Skin Surgical Grade was a brand that was affordable. I bought a couple pair in December of last year and my Mom liked them. Now we are both happy.

I just got these in the mail and I must admit that these really energize my legs a lot. Thank you Second Skin for putting a spring into my step.

I am extremely disappointed in these stockings. After wearing a couple of times, they have developed holes runs. When I contacted support, they said to purchase Joist which is a better quality.

I have several different brands of compression stockings and tried these because the price was so good. When I first saw them I thought they were the ugliest things I had ever seen because the toes are blousy and baggy and I thought they would wrinkle up and hurt my feet. But I wore them and now I won't wear any of the others that cost at least twice as much as these. I was about to lose a big toe nail because the other hose put so much pressure on it and it hurt all the time. These do not hurt AT ALL and have caused no problems with the extra fabric in the toes. I just now ordered 4 more pairs of them and will try to keep some for the rest of my life.

Do not do business with this company. Do not order any merchandise by telephone or from their internet website. You will regret it! Their rude and ignorant customer service agents will personally insult you by name. They will take your credit card and payment by telephone, but if you need to call back for a Return Merchandise Authorization exchange, they will tell you it can only be done by internet, and not over the telephone. Then they will prolong the matter by sending you meaningless emails of do you want a store credit or exchange, only to indicate that the item you ordered is not subject to return. (Read their fine print on their pages most customers don't read). I even highly question if this review will appear. Their Quality Assurance control does not address subjects of size labels on the merchandise, as there are none. When I ordered according to their size chart of X-Large, I was sent a pair so small it wouldn't fit over my anklel, and it hurt my skin. I struggled with putting in on and taking it off. There wasn't even a packaging slip inside indicating size. Totally disgusted and fed up!!!
