Measuring Guide for Compression Stockings

Measuring your legs for compression stockings, support socks, support hose, and gradient compression hosiery:.

  • For knee-highs: measure around your ankle and calf. Then, measure the distance from the floor to the back of your knee.
  • For thigh-high and pantyhose: measure around your ankle, calf, and upper thigh. Then, measure the distance from the floor to your upper thigh (bottom of your buttocks).

An Important Measuring Tip...
If swelling is an issue with you, measure your legs, first thing in the morning, after you get out of bed. This is when swelling is at a minimum, and the size of your legs should remain once the swelling is eliminated. Each of our compression products has a sizing chart on the product page.

Measure around the ankle at the narrowest point, generally above the ankle bone.
Measure around the calf muscle at the widest part.
Measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
Measure around the thigh approx. 3" below the gluteal fold (crease of buttocks).
Measure the distance from the bottom of your buttocks to the floor.

Sizes may differ between various brands of support stockings. Keep in mind that each manufacturer of support hose has their own sizing chart. A medium size in one brand of circulation stockings, may not be a medium in another. Some brands of compression stockings offer petite (shorter) lengths, while others do not. Knowing your measurements will ensure you get compression hosiery that fits properly and comfortably.

I personally don't like wearing compression hose, but prefer moderate compression socks instead. These knit compression socks were a proper fit, and helped with my circulation issues when I needed them. They're totally stylish, and they match a lot of my clothes.

I was looking for a sheer support hosiery for the longest time that wasn't going to look like traditional 'support socks', and when I found these they were exactly what I wanted.

The only socks I wear with most of my outfits. They're comfortable, affordable, they look great, and best of all, they help with my aching leg problems.
  • Author: Vivian from Massachusetts
Sure, these look great, but what I'd really like to talk about is the comfort. I've had a difficult time finding circulation hose that feel basically like regular hosiery, but these do. They aren't binding, they don't squeeze me at the top, and they're breathable. Such things do exist. Amen for comfort!
