Measuring Guide for Compression Stockings

Measuring your legs for compression stockings, support socks, support hose, and gradient compression hosiery:.

  • For knee-highs: measure around your ankle and calf. Then, measure the distance from the floor to the back of your knee.
  • For thigh-high and pantyhose: measure around your ankle, calf, and upper thigh. Then, measure the distance from the floor to your upper thigh (bottom of your buttocks).

An Important Measuring Tip...
If swelling is an issue with you, measure your legs, first thing in the morning, after you get out of bed. This is when swelling is at a minimum, and the size of your legs should remain once the swelling is eliminated. Each of our compression products has a sizing chart on the product page.

Measure around the ankle at the narrowest point, generally above the ankle bone.
Measure around the calf muscle at the widest part.
Measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
Measure around the thigh approx. 3" below the gluteal fold (crease of buttocks).
Measure the distance from the bottom of your buttocks to the floor.

Sizes may differ between various brands of support stockings. Keep in mind that each manufacturer of support hose has their own sizing chart. A medium size in one brand of circulation stockings, may not be a medium in another. Some brands of compression stockings offer petite (shorter) lengths, while others do not. Knowing your measurements will ensure you get compression hosiery that fits properly and comfortably.

Personally my compression stocking of choice are the Natural Rubber open toe knee highs. I thought these would be really restricting, but I was extremely surprised to find that this wasn't the case at all. They were very breatheable and comfortable

My wife has had CVI for quite a while now, and she wears the high wasted natural rubber one all of the time. She no longer complains about her legs, and you can't even tell she's wearing them under her pants.

I like the fact that these are very stretchy and have high elasticity. I can't say a bad thing about them, Sigvaris makes a great product.

I have deep vein thrombosis and my doctor actually recommended that I try these out. They're great. I really like the fact that they don't grip me at the top, and they don't feel like they are sufficating my legs, it's just the opposite.

These are medical hosiery with some style, which is exactly what I was looking for. I'm a long time suffering of swelling legs and varicose veins, and these do the trick in helping me deal with that. I would recommend these to anyone suffering with similar conditions.
