The Sigvaris Essential Opaque Knee High stocking (also commonly called a compression sock) is built for an everyday, easy-to-don opaque stocking, delivering 20-30 mmHg graduated compression in an open toe style, in a unisex fit. Part of Sigvaris' Opaque line, it's made with double-covered spandex yarns in Sigvaris' largest range of sizes, designed for easy donning even for wearers with arthritis or limited hand strength. A silicone grip top keeps it securely in place through the day. A good option for wearers managing venous edema, phlebolymphedema, or early-stage lymphedema who need an everyday opaque stocking. How to measure your legs for compression stockings, support socks, support hose, and gradient compression hosiery.
Where to Measure
- For knee-highs: measure around your ankle and calf. Then measure the distance from the floor to the back of your knee.
- For thigh-highs and pantyhose: measure around your ankle, calf, and upper thigh. Then measure the distance from the floor to your upper thigh (bottom of your buttocks).

How to Properly Measure and Apply Compression Stockings
The Key Measurements
Ankle
Measure around the ankle at the narrowest point, generally above the ankle bone.
Calf
Measure around the calf muscle at the widest part.
Length
Measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
Thigh
Measure around the thigh approximately 3 inches below the gluteal fold (crease of the buttocks).
Thigh Length
Measure the distance from the bottom of your buttocks to the floor.
Sizes may differ between various brands of support stockings—each manufacturer has their own sizing chart. A medium in one brand may not be a medium in another, and some brands offer petite (shorter) lengths while others do not.
