Collection: Athletic & Sport Compression Socks

About Athletic & Sport Compression Socks

Athletic compression socks combine graduated compression with performance features — cushioning, moisture-wicking fabric, and arch support — to boost circulation during activity and speed recovery afterward. They're popular with runners, gym-goers, and anyone on their feet who wants performance support.

Compression Levels

Choose the level that matches your needs:

  • 8–15 mmHg (Mild) — everyday comfort, light leg fatigue, and prevention; no prescription needed
  • 15–20 mmHg (Moderate) — tired, aching legs, travel, pregnancy, and early varicose veins
  • 20–30 mmHg (Firm) — the most prescribed level: varicose veins, moderate swelling, recovery
  • 30–40 mmHg (Extra Firm) — severe swelling, lymphedema, and CVI, under medical guidance

The strongest evidence for athletic compression is in recovery, not performance. Wearing 15–20 mmHg graduated compression after running, cycling, or intense training reduces delayed-onset muscle soreness, swelling, and the feeling of heavy legs. Many competitive runners and endurance athletes use compression immediately after events and during travel to events. The benefit during exercise is less conclusive but many athletes report reduced calf fatigue.

Most men's athletic compression falls in the 15–20 mmHg range — firm enough to improve calf circulation and reduce fatigue during activity, comfortable enough to wear during a full run or workout. Some recovery-specific styles go up to 20–30 mmHg. For sport and post-workout recovery, 15–20 mmHg is the standard; for diagnosable venous conditions, a medical level may be added on your doctor's recommendation.

Athletic compression adds performance features — extra cushioning, arch support, moisture-wicking fabrics, and sport styling — while using the same graduated compression technology as medical stockings. Medical stockings prioritise precise therapeutic mmHg accuracy and durability for daily long-term wear. For sport, recovery, and general fitness use, athletic styles are the right choice; for a diagnosed venous condition, choose a medical-grade style.

Both have merit. During a marathon, compression reduces calf muscle vibration and fatigue, which many runners feel delays the onset of heaviness. After the race, compression helps flush metabolic waste and reduces swelling during recovery. Many marathon runners wear compression throughout the race and then switch to fresh compression or keep them on through the day post-race. It's a personal preference — try both and track what helps you.

Athletic compression sizes by calf circumference and sometimes shoe size, depending on the brand. Measure your calf at its widest point in the morning and match to the brand's chart. A sock that's too loose delivers no compression benefit; too tight and it cuts into the calf and becomes uncomfortable during activity. Getting the calf measurement right is the most important sizing step for athletic compression.
