How to measure your legs for compression stockings, support socks, support hose, and gradient compression hosiery.
Where to Measure
- For knee-highs: measure around your ankle and calf. Then measure the distance from the floor to the back of your knee.
- For thigh-highs and pantyhose: measure around your ankle, calf, and upper thigh. Then measure the distance from the floor to your upper thigh (bottom of your buttocks).

How to Properly Measure and Apply Compression Stockings
The Key Measurements
Ankle
Measure around the ankle at the narrowest point, generally above the ankle bone.
Calf
Measure around the calf muscle at the widest part.
Length
Measure from the floor to the bend behind the knee.
Thigh
Measure around the thigh approximately 3 inches below the gluteal fold (crease of the buttocks).
Thigh Length
Measure the distance from the bottom of your buttocks to the floor.
Sizes may differ between various brands of support stockings—each manufacturer has their own sizing chart. A medium in one brand may not be a medium in another, and some brands offer petite (shorter) lengths while others do not. Knowing your measurements will ensure you get compression hosiery that fits properly and comfortably. Sizing charts are located on every product’s “see details” page.

The material is much heavier
"The material is much heavier than I expected. More accustomed to the thin synthetic type , almost like nylons. It's decidedly more challenging to fit over my heel, and once past that, adjusting it from side to side, to center it along my heel, is also more difficult. Finally, I was accustomed to the silicone band at the top, that helps keep the stocking from working its way down my calf. Don't think that feature is available in this product, and it makes a surprising difference. Turns out, that silicone band is a significant upcharge, but in my case worth it, because the edema it is designed to combat is significant. I must keep them on the entire time I am awake. It's not a bad product, for what it's designed to do, just not the design I require. It is warmer than the thinner models, so I may keep one pair for cold weather."
